As all hail the turtleneck as this winter's wardrobe. My Chinese New Year Outfit

Happy Lunar New Year!!  Welcome to the year of Rooster!  Today is the New Years Eve for Chinese New Year.  In Chinese culture, red is a lucky color, so giving money in a red envelope is a way of giving best wishes, as well as a financial present.  It's like sending a greetings card with money inside in the West.  Red envelope money is called "lucky money", though it's really the red envelope that's lucky.

It is believed that wearing new clothes from head to toe symbolizes a new start and fresh hopes for the New Year. Chinese believe that New Year's Day sets the tone for the rest of the year, so everyone tries to dress well.  As mentioned repeatedly here, red is China's good luck color, believed to scare away spirits of bad fortune.

I didn't want to dress like a big Red envelope, so I'm wearing this bright pink with some red accents instead.  I'm also making dumplings for dinner as they are a traditional Chinese New Year food, especially in North China. As they are the shape of old silver and gold ingots (an old form of currency), Chinese believe that eating dumplings will bring prosperity in the coming year.   Click here for recipes!

DIY Jean Jacket

Hello everyone!  Happy Tuesday!  Today I'm wearing an old jean jacket that I refashioned.  I sewed the patches and the fur collar myself.  I got all these patches from Amazon, turned this old jacket alive again!  I have been wearing it so much since! Totally in love with it!

The Statement White Coat

This season, try standing out in a sea of black coats with a clean white coat.  As intimidating as the color white may be, its crisp allure and high versatility are reasons enough to chance it.  Or, use a white coat as a way to tone down a more colorful look.  There’s something extremely fresh about leather jackets, overcoats, fur coats, and trench coats all rendered in white, and we’re loving how they manage to give your fall outfit a crisp, chic, unexpected update. The only downside? The fact that you can't go anywhere without your trusty Tide To Go pen in tow. Ah well, it’s a small price to pay.

How To Wear Cropped Pants In Winter

Showing a little leg in winter doesn’t have to mean freezing your ankles. If you can wear skirts throughout the winter, then you sure as heck should be able to pull off cropped trousers and jeans without freezing your ankles off. Cropped pants flatter every body type, can be paired with heels or flats.  To me, they work for both Winter or Spring depending on how you style 'em.

Hawaii Getaway Photo Diary And Hotel Reviews

Hello everyone, TGI!  As some of you may know from following me on Instagram or Facebook, I was in Hawaii last Christmas. It was wonderful to spend the holiday in a tropical island.  Nothing is better than putting on swimming suits and dip in the ocean on Christmas Day!  I'm back to Vancouver now, but I left my heart in Hawaii!

We first stayed at Sheraton Waikiki, and then we checked in to Turtle Bay Resort.  Waikiki was a lot of fun, however we were disappointed at the services from Sheraton Waikiki.  The hotel was in full capacity during Christmas time, and their staffs just show less care to their guests.  They were obviously enthusiastic or bored with their work and were largely unresponsive to the most reasonable and basic service requests. There were few smiles and everyone was in a hurry.  The gym at Sheraton Waikiki doesn't even have a window, you feel you are working out in a prison!

We hiked Diamond Head, swam at Hanauma Bay, watched sunset at Ala Moana Beach.  It was absolutely beautiful!

Turtle Bay Resort was amazing.  Skip the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and come experience the Paradise of true Hawaii.  Some of the best snorkeling on this side of the island. The beach area is well-protected so the waves are minimal and the water is clear. The amount of wildlife wasn't spectacular but it's great for beginners. The beach itself was safe despite being well-traveled. The rooms are clean spacious and up to date. The staff is amazing kind and so helpful. The gym is very well stocked with high end machines and cardio equipment. The pools are large enough  though not overly big - but you do have the ocean a few steps away.

Lanikai Beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen!  No wonder it ranks as one of the best beaches in the world. Surrounded by endless miles of calm tranquil aqua blue waters, it’s hard to look at it these special windward ocean waters without getting an urge to jump right in.  You will be mesmerized the moment you walk down one of the several public beach access alleyways.
